| PMWATCH - April 24, 2002 -- On April 12, 2002, PMWatch issued an alert against what we thought was
"the rawest display of racist yet". Little did we know that more
equally racist cartoons were forthcoming from other papers.
Here is yet another racist cartoon, published in the Palm Beach Post on Apr 23, by one Don Wright.
The cartoon (see above) depicts four children expressing their mothers' hopes for them when they grow up.
In our attempts to communicate with the paper, we have encountered from them nothing but arrogance and
insensitivity of the worst kind. Here is what a pmwatcher wrote us about an exchange he had with
editorial page editor Randy Shultz:
Randy Schultz, the editor of the Opinion section of the Palm Beach Post, completely supports
Don Wright’s characterization of Palestinians. I just had a lengthy discussion with him. Not
only did he tell me that I did not know what I was talking about because I apparently am not
qualified to speak out since I am neither Jewish nor Palestinian, but he also said that they
have numerous interviews with Palestinians who want their children to die as martyrs. So, he
concurs that ALL Palestinians want nothing more than to have their children kill Jews. I
counterpointed him each time, but he continually retreated to saying that I was talking to
a wall because his mind was made up – they are not running a retraction and they stand by
Don Wright’s political statement.
Please give these heedless, careless, "journalists" a call and share with them your feelings
about not only the cartoon but their insensitivity.
