PMWATCH
- JULY 17, 2002 -- In the midst of the vast morass of hardline,
extremist, hatemongering, pro-occupation propaganda, whether blatantly
exhibited by FoxNews or barely
concealed by a thin veil (and the veil
is disappearing) of "objectivity" and "balance" by CNN,
a new island of sanity and common sense about the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict has somehow managed to emerge: Donahue!
Just this
evening (July 17, 2002), for instance, Donahue
ran an amazing segment -- truly a first in prime time American
Cable TV. While CNN and FoxNews
were going through their usual script, where the usual suspects
are given extended stretches of time to spew their usual blinding
and numbing dehumanization of Palestinians, here was Donahue
bringing two kids from Seeds
of Peace -- one Arab and the other Jewish -- to talk about
humanizing each other and building the future. A particularly
interesting moment was Donahue
taking a much deserved jab at The
New York Times for not covering the coffins exhibition: Palestinian
and Israeli coffins lined up by Palestinian and Israeli families
in New York City - the very hometown of the The
New York Times. An impressive sight from the images Donahue
showed. (This is the first we heard of it, by the way -- just
to show you the breakthrough in the mainstream media Donahue
is!)
Donahue
is doing something extremely important: he is injecting much needed
sanity in the mainstream debate about the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict, and is doing it WITHOUT APLOGIES! This is something
no other show has dared to do in any half-serious way, let alone
do it openly and with passion for the truth and a committed humanizing
compassion to all sides of this tragic conflict.
And so, the
show is sure to be deluged with vicious attacks and Donahue
is sure to be demonized and branded a "terrorist-lover"
and an "anti-Semite".
Please drop
Donahue
a supportive note whenever you can, and every day, if you can
spare the minute or two. You can do that easily by entering your
letter below and hitting the "send" button. Don't delay!
