Many who have
contributed, and continue to contribute, to Palesine
Media Watch have been engaged in intense and persietent writing
campaigns to newspapers and other media outlets across the country.
Their efforts have not been in vain: editorial boards and story
writers have begun to tone down their raw pro-Israeli line, and
have started (though still very modestly) to give some voice to
the Palestinian side.
The lesson
that is emerging is that the best results are usually obtained
from those who pick a particular newspaper or media outlet and
persistently send them well written, intelligently argued, factually
supported, letters on a daily basis. Best examples of this are
Omar Barghouti (to the New York Times), Sarah Waheed, and Tait
Graves (The Washington Post and The Philadelphi Inquirer), Dorie
Alqam (Time Magazine), among others.
Therefore:
PMWatch is kicking off a
"Become a Media Gadfly" program. We are looking for
dedicated people who will take on a particular newspaper or media
outlet and write to them on a regular -- and ideally, daily --
basis. The aim is mainly twofold: (1) to establish a live line
of communication between us and the media, and (2) to supply writers
and editors in a persistent and reliable manner with facts and
arguments. You will be suprised the degree of ignorance these
writers are laboring under (in addition to the unreflexive bias
in their worldview).
*gad-fly n.
